Hold off on getting expensive surgery or settling for glasses. You may not need to resort to that; instead, you can follow these tips to improve your vision naturally and fast.

There are also many different eye diseases you could be experiencing. They range from glaucoma to cataracts to macular degeneration. The first step to improving your vision naturally is getting a diagnosis from your eye doctor. Book an exam and get a comprehensive test of your eyes and your vision. Once the doctor can confirm what your condition is, you can start on the path to improving it.

It’s also important to understand your odds of success. If you’re an 80-year-old with declining vision, your doctor may recommend treatment outside of the holistic options. This is because it’s unlikely you’ll be able to turn your 80-year-old eyes back into 20-year-old ones. Natural vision remedies aren’t for everything, but they do work for many. Your eye doctor can guide you on what expectations to set for each form of treatment. However, remember that invasive surgeries and eye accessories are not the only options out there.

Improve Your Vision Naturally Through Your Diet

The first step to improve your vision is to work on your diet. How many of the essential eye health nutrients do you get every day? If you don’t know, it’s time to start logging your food. Using a notebook or your phone, record your diet for one week. Then, review it to see how many of the following nutrients you consumed:

  • Omega 3s and 6s

Perhaps you notice from your food log that you ate a ton of greasy and sugary foods. These foods are low in nutrients and can actually damage your eyes over time. The first thing you need to do is clean up your diet and start drinking more water. This will ensure your eyes have the nutrients they need to function well and stay strong. Luckily, the nutrients your eyes depend on are often the same nutrients your other organs need. Choosing to eat a healthier diet overall will benefit your entire body as well as improve your eyesight.

Assess Your Lifestyle and Break Bad Habits

Are you partaking in activities that damage your health? Your choices and vices can negatively affect your vision. Two activities, smoking and drinking alcohol, are especially bad for your eyes. Smoking cigarettes can lead to glaucoma, cataracts, AMD, dry eyes and diabetic retinopathy. Not to mention the effects of secondhand smoke on the infant eyes around you. You are more likely to develop a devastating eye disease if you smoke cigarettes.

The second activity, drinking alcohol, is just as damaging. It weakens the muscles in and around your eyes which can cause visual impairment. Drinking can damage the optic nerve which your brain relies on to transmit images. And, it can cause migraines, light sensitivity, blurry vision, redness and decreased color vision. If you want to improve your vision naturally, quit smoking and drinking alcohol. Or, at the very least, cut back drastically.

Another lifestyle habit you may not realize is affecting your vision is being on the computer. Digital screens, from laptops to smartphones, can cause serious eye conditions. The most notable is Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS). Too much screen time can cause eye strain, dryness, redness and irritation. CVS is common among office workers and students. Excessive screen time can also lead to a decline in your distance vision. Ideally, to improve your eyesight, you need to cut back on computer time. However, it’s understandable for many careers and for students that that isn’t possible.

To remedy the effects of being on the computer a lot, take breaks often. Practice using the 10-10-10 Rule; you can even set a timer on your phone to remind you. Go outside every day to take advantage of looking at objects at varying distances away. Practice palming your eyes to relax them and give them a well-needed break. Giving your eyes the chance to recuperate will help to naturally improve your eyesight.
